qPCR instrument: Roche LightCycler Nano

Roche LightCycler Nano was relased in november 2012 at American Society for Human Genetics annual meeting in San Fransisco. This is a mid-price segment of the market qPCR Machine dedicated for life science research only.

Roche instruments are well known for an user-friendly interface.This platform comes with a redesign software that is designed to provide guided navigation. Sofware comes free of charge and implements the real time PCR data markup language, or RDML file format witch become very popular on global level as a universal file format for real time pcr data. A fact proved by a long list of supporters of this standardization. The new platform is dedicated to both high-end research customers and more casual users (instructors in teaching laboratories for students) in the mid-price segment of the market (around 30,000 US $). The 96 well block format represents more than 50% of the market, and is dedicated for users that demand more automation.

Silver Block The silver block designed to ensure a high degree of temperature homogeneity and uniformity thus improving data consistency and accuracy ( +/- 0.2° Celsius from the target temperature). Optical fibers The 96 individual glass optical fibres ensuring equal and simultaneous data capture from all 96 wells. The system is also calibration-free, as it does not require a passive reference dye. With the new LightCycler 96, Roche complete the portfolio which also includes the following instruments:

• LightCycler 480 (switch between 96 and 384 well plate)
• LightCycler 1536 (the most expensive,pharmaceutical research, discovery, and quality control)
• LightCycler Nano (32 well plates introduced in 2011, sold to academic users )
